Advisor/Important notes:
- Hybrid/Group Programs offer students the ability to learn alongside other global study students from US institutions at international study centers. Some hybrid/group programs allow students to enroll in a couple of courses at local universities, but a majority of these programs are taught by local faculty and professionals through an affiliated study abroad provider at their program’s academic center. These programs frequently offer courses that relate to the program location including language and culture classes, and they tend to focus less on STEM courses. On a vast majority of hybrid/group programs, students live with host families/homestays, providing them a great connection to the local culture.
- Students arrive and take an intensive pre-semester Spanish course at the appropriate level for them.
- Students can fulfill the entire Gettysburg Curricular language requirement in Spanish language. In order to fulfill this requirement, students will take the intensive pre-semester Spanish language course, and then students will need to take another Spanish language course for the remaining duration of the semester abroad.
- Spanish majors and minors must speak with faculty in the Spanish Department before selecting a global study program.
- Students live with host families, which are typically located in the more modern part of town.
- Students can request to stay with other students in their homestay. The ability to do this depends on the ability of host families to accommodate multiple students. Students make this request directly to CIEE through their housing application. It is not guaranteed that they will be able to accommodate this, but they do try.
- After the conclusion of the mandatory intensive Spanish language course, students take courses taught at UPO (Universidad Pablo de Olavide).
- Language placement¿–¿Prior to departure for Seville, all students take an online placement exam. Results determine appropriate placement in language courses. Placement in many upper-level courses depends on a high score.
- There is the opportunity for students to do an internship seminar through CIEE in place of a course.
- Internship Placement¿–¿Participate in our “Internship Fair” and practice your interview skills. Placement is determined by language ability, job skills, and background. Because Spanish firms make final selections, internships in a particular company are not guaranteed. Students have interned for organizations like Marketing Publicidad, Simetrycal, Mail Boxes, CLIC, CyO Arquitectos as well as smaller firms and companies.
- CIEE wants all of their students to feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed while studying abroad. Local CIEE staff have provided details about conditions and cultural attitudes that students with specific identities might encounter in Seville.
