Advisor/Important notes:

  • Direct Enroll Programs offer students an immersive academic and social experience as they directly enroll in a local University in their Host country! Students learn in a diverse classroom with degree seeking and fellow global study students from all over the world, and have opportunities to choose from a wide array of courses. Students love engaging with the local campus and the opportunities to join student clubs and organizations. These programs oftentimes offer more STEM courses in comparison to our Hybrid/Group programs through our affiliated study abroad providers. Most direct enrollment programs allow students to live in shared apartments with other university students, but a few have host family options.
  • Spanish majors/minors must meet with faculty in the Spanish Department prior to choosing a program.
  • Students need to be ready for a slightly challenging visa process - the program provider will provide guidance through this process.
  • Courses are mostly humanities and social sciences focused.

Program Highlights:

  • Ideal for adventurous, flexible students who want to connect with Cuban people, experience vibrant cultural life, and see the natural beauty of the Caribbean. Learn among Cuban peers and students from all over the world at Universidad de La Habana. Classes are taught in Spanish. Humanities and social sciences classes tend to be popular with IFSA students. With a homestay and engaging activities and excursions, you’ll get to know Cuba’s unique social and economic system.
  • Activities and excursions are designed to pull you into the communities you visit and encourage cultural connections of every kind. There is no extra fee to participate in these optional outings—everything is included.
  • Students have the opportunity to participate in part-time, non-credit bearing volunteering opportunities in Havana. The placement process begins with indicating on your IFSA application that you would like to volunteer while in Cuba. The local IFSA office then works with your availability outside of classes and your interests, to help find an appropriate option for you.
