Advisor/Important notes:
- Direct Enroll Programs offer students an immersive academic and social experience as they directly enroll in a local University in their Host country! Students learn in a diverse classroom with degree seeking and fellow global study students from all over the world, and have opportunities to choose from a wide array of courses. Students love engaging with the local campus and the opportunities to join student clubs and organizations. These programs oftentimes offer more STEM courses in comparison to our Hybrid/Group programs through our affiliated study abroad providers. Most direct enrollment programs allow students to live in shared apartments with other university students, but a few have host family options.
- Main focus of this program is on Japanese language acquisition + 1-2 other courses.
- The International Office at Toyo is really on top of things. Almost half of their student population is international students.
- Some of their recommendations for academics are Business, International Relations, area studies, and language (NEST program).
- Housing in AI House:
- Fully furnished dormitory room shared with other international students and locals called the AI-House.
- All dorms are single rooms with shared kitchens and bathrooms. Typically 12 students share a space
- Students should expect 40-45 minute commute
- Amenities include access to study rooms, a music studio, and cultural events hosted by the resident assistants.
- All interested international exchange students are connected with Language Exchange Partners (LEPs), Toyo student volunteers who can help with Japanese language practice and assimilation into Japanese culture.
- IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SEMESTER DATES:
- Spring semester is typically March- August
- Fall semester (Semester 1) is typically September- January.

Program Highlights:
- With a central location in the magical city of Tokyo, Toyo offers an experience in the heart of one of the most modern megacities in the world. Just off campus, temples and shrines that are hundreds of years old offer opportunities for quiet reflection and a change of pace.
- Deepen your understanding of Japanese language and culture while also examining global business, international relations, or urban and environmental studies.
- All interested international exchange students are connected with Language Exchange Partners (LEPs), Toyo student volunteers who can help with Japanese language practice and assimilation into Japanese culture.
- How would you fare against a real-life sumo wrestler? As an international student at Toyo, find out by participating in a training session with Toyo’s sumo team and then sitting down to dinner with them afterward. If you would rather just watch sumo, every winter students attend the annual Grand Sumo Tournament held at the world-famous Ryougoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall.
