Annual Open Enrollment process

Each year in November, the Open Enrollment period provides employees with an opportunity to change their benefit elections. At this time the schedule of benefits offered by the college may also change.

Changes for the 2020 and 2021 calendar years

In 2020 and 2021 significant changes are being made to the College’s health insurance. It is important that you understand the options fully so you can make the best choice for you and your family.

To provide quality health care coverage to our employees at an affordable cost, the College plans to transition to solely a Qualified High Deductible Plan beginning in January, 2021. Effective, January, 2020, the College will no longer offer the PPO 500 plan. Health coverage options include a Qualified High Deductible Plan with a Health Savings Account and a PPO 1000 plan.

Employees are strongly encouraged to consider the Qualified High Deductible Plan for 2020 to fully take advantage of overall premium savings and the College’s contribution to your Health Savings Accounts.

In 2020 the College will contribute $1,250 for an individual and $2,500 for a family into your Health Savings Account. If you already signed up for the Qualified High Deductible Plan last year, these resources will be added to any money you already have in your Health Savings Account. You may also make voluntary contributions to your Health Savings Account. There is an annual federal limit of $3,550 for an individual and $7,100 for a family; which includes both employer and employee contributions.

In 2021, the College will no longer offer any PPO options and the only option available will be a Qualified High Deductible Plan. In 2021, the College will contribute $750 for individuals and $1,500 for a family into your Health Savings Account. Since the money rolls over, it may be in your best interest to sign up for the Qualified High Deductible Plan this year to potentially have some resources roll over into the following year.

Gettysburg College is dedicated to providing excellent health insurance plans that offer quality care for you and your family while remaining affordable. We will hold a series of meetings in the coming weeks to talk in more detail about these options and other plan design changes.

Open Enrollment dates

Open Enrollment begins on November 8, 2019 and ends at midnight on November 18 (i.e. a period of 10 days). On November 8, you will receive an email with the Open Enrollment Link. You have until midnight on November 18 to enter your 2020 Benefit Elections.

Please plan to attend or schedule a meeting with me to learn more about employee contributions for 2020, changes to the prescription plan and other plan design changes effective in 2020 and 2021.
