Internships for English Majors and Minors

English majors and minors may participate in a variety of internship opportunities, some of which are eligible for full or partial academic credit. Such internships have traditionally been in such fields as advertising, public relations, radio and television communications, print journalism, and publishing. However, internship opportunities for English majors are by no means limited to these fields.

  • English majors regularly participate in internships at The Gettysburg Times, public relations firms in the New York and Washington areas, and more.
  • Any industry that requires highly developed verbal, written, and analytical skills might offer an opportunity for an internship -- for example, in the burgeoning software and telecommunications industries.
  • Each semester, The Gettysburg Review   selects one student (usually a senior) to work as its office intern. This internship is designed to teach both the general components of publishing and the specific process of publishing of a literary magazine. The experience is invaluable; in fact, it's not uncommon for former Review   interns to work in publishing upon graduation.
