Bullets Marching Band Registration Deadline: June 15, 2024
Joining the Bullets Marching Band is easy! Read the information on this page, then complete the steps to join.
1. Complete the Intent to Participate form.
The band camp fee for 2024 is $230, and can be paid either in full when you join or in two installments: a $115 deposit due at registration and a $115 balance due on August 1. If you change your mind and decide not to join, your deposit is refundable up to June 15. After June 15, your deposit is not refundable.
The Band Camp fee should not be a barrier to your participation. If you have trouble paying all or part of the fee, please contact Dr. Marx directly at smarx@gettysburg.edu to discuss options. Money should never be a reason you do not participate in a band at Gettysburg College!
Other items are required for membership, but you do not need to purchase them from Gettysburg Bands. For example, if you already have a flip-folder or solid black marching shoes in good condition, you do not need to purchase them again. You can also feel free to purchase these items at your local music store if you prefer.
The last set of items are completely optional...for your comfort and to show your Bullets Marching Band spirit and pride. Please note the only hats allowed in the stadium or while in uniform are the uniform shako, the official baseball cap, and the official cold-weather beanie (both sold on the intent form). Purchase of these additional hats is optional, but you cannot wear other hats in the stadium or in uniform.
Color Guard members should make sure to check the special page on the Intent Form just for them, and also must purchase a band jacket as it is part of your game-day stadium/stands uniform.
2. Make plans to attend band camp in the fall. Also, Marching Band is a Class!
You can view an outline camp calendar from the calendar page on our website. Be sure to note which day you report to camp. If you want to check-in to your housing earlier than your scheduled day, you must indicate this on your Intent to Participate form.
The Bullets Marching Band is a class, MUS_ENS 163 Marching Band. You DO NOT need to register for this class during your registration window; all members will be administratively added during band camp. Please note that while we are a class, we do not count toward your total # of courses. In other words, this will neither count as your “fourth” course nor will it prevent you from taking four (or five) traditional courses.
The Bullets Marching Band meets and rehearses on Mondays from 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. and Fridays from 4:10 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. You should ensure you don’t have any unavoidable schedule conflicts, especially on Monday evenings. Students who must take a course on Monday evenings due to the requirements of their major may miss up to an hour of rehearsal; this is arranged on a per-student basis with permission of Dr. Marx.
3. That’s it! You are now a member of the Bullets Marching Band.
After registration closes June 15, we will send an email to all registered members with links to a special members-only page where you can download music, a detailed camp schedule, specific housing check-in information and more.
Don’t wait - the deadline for membership is June 15, 2024. We must enforce this date so we can reserve your housing, secure meals, write drill and make final camp plans.
