Immersion Projects

About

Volunteers work with CPS to arrange events and participate in open discussions with participants related to the immersion project topic.

Description

Immersion Projects are off-campus, educational opportunities at sites in the United States and abroad which take place over winter break, spring break, and in May. Students spend the weeks prior to travel learning about the community and its history. Students then travel to sites ranging from Nicaragua to Morocco and from Alabama to New York City, where they immerse themselves in the community. Each project seeks to foster a dialogue between the students and the host community around issues of social justice. By working alongside community leaders and sharing their stories, students learn about themselves and the world. Students find Immersion Projects to be exciting and powerful educational experiences.

Summer Fellowships

About

Volunteers provide CPS with connections in locations that summer fellows will be visiting to support them on their fellowships.

Description

Center for Public Service Summer Fellows work with dynamic partners in Namibia, Gettysburg, Tucson, and Nepal spending eight weeks learning about and engaging in the work of community action. Whether working on food security with the Latinx community in Gettysburg or training youth to become peer health educators in Omaruru, Namibia, Fellows will have the opportunity to develop strong relationships and learn what it is like to tackle some of the world’s most challenging issues. This fellowship reflects Gettysburg College’s commitment to community engagement in both local and global contexts.

Panelist

About

CPS offers several events that involve panelists who speak about their connection to CPS and continued focus on community development.

Description

In the past, alumni have served as panelists during GIV Day to talk about life in Adams County; during J-Term to discuss how their work related to COVID response; and various other ways that demonstrate how our Alumni connect with community development and social change in their work.
