My name is Joyce Galanti. I have my BA in Behavioral Health Science/Addiction Studies and my MA in Community Counseling from Alvernia College in Reading, PA. I have certifications in drug and alcohol treatment (CAADC) and Co-Occurring Disorders (CCDP-D).
I have worked in varied venues such as substance abuse treatment and mental health treatment for non-profit and for profit entities. I have also worked in private practice. I have worked with all ages and families/couples and mandated individuals. I have taught as an adjunct at Montgomery County Community College and Lehigh County Community College. I taught Abnormal Psychology, Child Psychology, Adolescent Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, and Personality. I have also worked in the correctional field as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Dauphin County Prison. I was hired in September of 2018 by Gettysburg College Counseling Department as the Suicide Prevention Coordinator and Counselor.
My approach to counseling is "eclectic", meaning I use different techniques depending on what the individual needs and what is helpful. I believe that we can retrain our brains to function in a positive manner and build resiliency tools to overcome "bumps" in the road of life. I want others to understand that we all have our strengths and we can use those strengths to enhance life.
In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family, ride motorcycles, hike, swim, canoe, play with my puppies, read, and watch reality TV.
“It's up to you today to start making healthy choices. Not choices that are just healthy for your body, but healthy for your mind.”
