Accompanist Policy

Recitals

  • Accompanists for recitals must be individually contacted and contracted by each student planning to do a recital.

  • Eligible accompanists are a Gettysburg College student taking private piano lessons (with the approval of the recitalist’s studio teacher), the staff accompanist, or a contracted professional.

  • Accompanists must be contacted before any scheduling for recital, dress rehearsal, or hearing times. Otherwise, there is no guarantee of the accompanist’s availability.

  • Students will pay the accompanist a fee for all degree recitals. This fee will be negotiated with the accompanist before the performance and may include rehearsal fees. For student accompanists, there will be no charge if the recital fulfills the pianist's accompanying requirement.

  • Payment is due in full on the day of the dress rehearsal. Otherwise, an accompanist has the right to withdraw from playing on the student’s recital.

Juries/Assessments

  • Students will be provided an accompanist at no cost for their jury/assessment. They may also use a student pianist (with the permission of the juried student’s studio teacher and the pianist’s studio teacher).

  • Students will receive one half hour rehearsal with their accompanist before juries to be scheduled individually. Additional time may be scheduled at the accompanist’s discretion.

  • Music is due to the accompanist at the same time that the student hands in his/her jury materials to the office. It should be placed in the accompanist’s mailbox in the office.

Other Activities

All other accompanying will be negotiated with the accompanist on an individual basis. These could include costs for transportation and other costs associated with the performance.
