Professor Kay Etheridge, Associate Professor of Biology, presented "Maria Sibylla Merian, the First Ecologist" at a conference titled "Women in Science," hosted by the Uninversity of Grenoble, in France, June 2-4, 2009.  The paper examined the innovative contributions of a seventeenth-century naturalist to the beginnings of entomology and ecology.
