FAFSA Simplification Updates

The 2024-2025 FAFSA is now open to complete at studentaid.gov

The U.S. Department of Education has overhauled the 2024-2025 FAFSA to streamline the federal aid application process. Due to the December 31 delayed soft launch, our office will not begin to receive summaries of FAFSA information until later in March. We encourage all graduate students who wish to utilize federal loans during the 2024-2025 academic year to submit the 2024-25 FAFSA as soon as possible so our office will be able to confirm federal financial aid loan eligibility as soon as FAFSA information is available to colleges.

Our office recognizes that some may experience technical issues completing and submitting the 2024-2025 FAFSA. We are monitoring known issues and staying informed of resolutions as they become available. You can view the latest status and report issues at studentaid.gov.

Applying for Federal Financial Aid

A FAFSA must be submitted annually in order to utilize the Direct Unsubsidized student loan and/or Grad PLUS loan. The FAFSA becomes available each year on October 1st. We recommend that students utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in the FAFSA to directly import completed 2021 Federal Tax information. Gettysburg College code is 003268. First-time borrowers must complete Entrance Counseling and a Loan Agreement (MPN) at studentaid.gov.

  1. Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan Information: Please note, students are aided with the tuition cost that they are eligible to borrow each term and it is the student’s responsibility to confirm the amount to be borrowed through the Campus Experience portal or by emailing finaid@gettysburg.edu
  2. Grad PLUS Loan: Students should complete the Grad PLUS loan request form and return to the financial aid office at least 30 days before funds are needed
