EI's March 20 transgender inclusion in the military panel to be livestreamed
Panel moderated by Gettysburg College assistant professor of economics Rimvydas Baltaduonis
The Eisenhower Institute of Gettysburg College will host a panel discussion, “Transgender Inclusion in the Military” on March 20. The event is free and open to the public and will take place at 7:30 pm in Masters Hall’s Mara Auditorium, located near the campus fountain.
A livestream of the event will be available on the evening of March 20.
Left behind in the wake of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy repeal, transgender individuals (people that identify with or express a gender identity that differs from their sex at birth) remain unable to serve openly in the U.S. military. This discussion brings together representatives from invested parties – transgender veterans, their advocates, the U.S. Army, and the Canadian Armed Forces, which allows transgender individuals to serve openly – and will offer a rare opportunity for all parties to share their perspectives and insights on this issue.
