Women's hoops headed to Sweet Sixteen, facing Babson College on March 12

The Gettysburg College women's basketball team will continue to dance this postseason as senior Courtney Fields and sophomores Julie McGrory and Sara Kinsley combined for all but nine points in a 71-55 victory over Utica College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on March 6 at Moravian College.

Gettysburg (24-4) is headed to the national sectionals for the first time in school history and will face Babson College (27-3) next Friday, March 12, at the NCAA Division III Tournament Sectional hosted by Amherst College, Mass.

Gettysburg opens Friday's action against Babson College at 5 p.m. with host Amherst (29-0) facing off against Williams College (20-7) at 7 p.m. The two winners will face each other the following day with a shot at the "Final Four" on the line at 6 p.m.

The Bullets advanced to the program's first ever "Sweet 16" appearance by way of victories over Farmingdale State College (68-57) and Utica College (71-55) over the weekend.

"I think our kids are really excited so I'm really excited," said Head Coach Mike Kirkpatrick. "I just like when we play really well, and tonight we played really well."

Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with a strong academic tradition. Alumni include Rhodes Scholars, a Nobel laureate, and other distinguished scholars. The college enrolls 2,600 undergraduate students and is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.
